Welcome to the year 6 class page
In year 6, our motto is ‘work hard; play hard’ as we believe our days should be full of both learning and fun.
On this page, you’ll find useful information to help you support your child during their time in year 6. If there’s ever anything you need, please don’t hesitate to contact me through the school office or catch me at the end of the school day.
Thanks, Mrs Helks

Reading Books
Reading books need to be in school every day.
We are dedicated to helping our pupils make as much progress as possible with their reading. Please support your child’s progress by reading with them at least 3 times a week at home. As children develop their fluency, they may choose to read independently. If this is the case, please remember to sign your child’s planner to indicate when they have completed their reading.
Homework
In year 6, our aim is to prepare children for the homework demands of high school. Each week, your child will complete 3 pieces of homework: a GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling) task, a reading comprehension task and a maths task. Each task should take around 15 minutes.
Homework is handed out on Fridays to be completed by the following Wednesday. These will then be marked together with the children within the school week.
We understand that every pupil’s home life may be different: some children enjoy a range of extra-curricular activities while other children may prefer to relax and unwind with their loved ones. We feel that our homework requirements ensure children can find a balance that suits their schedules.
If you have any queries or concerns relating to homework, please let us know.
